When trying to achieve your perfect smile, you may think that you have to undergo significant mouth reconstructions to make it happen. Invasive procedures that typically require enamel removal (i.e. porcelain veneers and dental crowns) can make your teeth appear straighter, but can make the typical patient uncomfortable.

However, that doesn’t mean you have to give up on getting the smile you’ve always wanted. On top of no needles, no drills, and no enamel removal, you also won’t need to use any metal components when you choose Invisalign in Aurora!

To learn how the treatment works and how long it will take, keep reading!

How is Invisalign Different?

Unlike traditional orthodontics, which use multiple metal components like brackets and wires to shift teeth, Invisalign utilizes thermoplastic aligners designed to fit your new smile exactly. These aligners are also removable, meaning patients won’t have to change their diets or their oral care technique just to keep them clean. Instead, they are soaked in prosthetic cleaning fluids or with Invisalign’s cleaning crystals.

Additionally, the aligners are transparent, meaning you won’t need to make changes to your image just to achieve a straighter smile! You can easily shift teeth without your family, friends, or colleagues being the wiser. Once enough time has passed, you’ll show up to work one day and everyone will be shocked to see that you have an incredibly straight smile!

Patients also don’t have to visit their dentist as often for tightening appointments, which are necessary for shifting to occur. Since the entire series of aligners is created at the beginning of treatment, you simply move on to the next pair when enough time has passed.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Each pair of aligners is designed to apply gentle amounts of force to your teeth over two to four weeks, depending on your progress. Once this time has passed, your teeth will have moved closer to their straighter position, meaning you’ll move to the next pair in the set until you complete the entire series.

Of course, to achieve effective results, you’ll need to wear them for at least 22 hours per day, only removing when brushing your teeth or eating. You can still drink plain water while in use.

How Long is Treatment?

Treatment time largely varies on the severity of the misalignment being treated. Therefore, it can range anywhere from one to two years, which is still shorter than the average time it takes to realign teeth with metal braces.

However, the longer you stay dedicated to wearing your braces, the higher your chances are of achieving a perfect smile in less time. With the extra convenience comes a certain amount of discipline to make treatment work!
